Newsletter - November 2026

Hello everybody, we hope you're keeping well. As always, there's lots of news to catch up on, new releases to enjoy, and events to look forward to.

And speaking of events, we would like to kick things off by saying a huge thank you to the Scarred For Life team, Bob Fischer and Stephen Brotherstone, for putting on such a brilliant show for us last week, and an equally huge thank you to all of you who came along. It was a night full of laughs, re-awakened nightmares and nostalgic chats, and we really hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The feedback we've recieved since has been truly heartwarming, and it was great to see that the audience represented such a wide demographic and not just those of us of the Haunted Generation - middle aged in other words - and it's been great to hear that people have been inspired to go and watch the likes of Penda's Fen, Children of The Stones and the harrowing Nationwide Hexham Heads footage again, or in many cases for the very first time. A wonderful night, capped of with an excellent and enlightening Q & A session, and the great news is that Bob and Stephen enjoyed it so much that they want to come back with a brand new show next year! Watch this space...

So onto future events, and next in store we have another in-store gig for you, featuring live 'acoustic electronica' and ambient soundscapes from c1clesandl1nes (Circles & Lines) and _eneka, featuring Jez and Jon from local legends Machines Of Loving Grace. The shop will be open as normal, reconfigured to allow plenty of space for you to browse the racks, or sit & relax and enjoy the music with a beverage. So that's happening on Sunday 15th November, from 1pm to 3pm, and entry is free.

The following week sees the return of the Eclectic Fair to the shop and CryerArts Marquee, on Saturday 21st November, 11am to 5pm. As always there'll be stacks of original art, musical instruments, retro clothing, jewellery, greetings cards and gifts on offer, and of course we will be open as normal with a few extras available, including books and turntables, aside from the usual range of vinyl, CDs & magazines. Once again, entrance is free.

And so to our final event of what has proved to be an exceptionally busy year; our Carshalton Cult Film Club Christmas Special, on Friday 4th December, from 6:30pm. This time we'll be offering some seasonal spookiness in the form of 2 episodes of the original BBC 'Ghost Stories at Christmas' series. Travis Elborough will be returning to compere the evening, and we're still undecided as to which episodes will feature, with my own choice currently being deemed 'too dark' to give a public airing. They might have a point, but we shall see...

We'll be announcing ticket arrangements on social media (Instagram & Facebook) soon.

We've had a lot of new stock coming in recently, including some wonderful new releases - eerily atmospheric, gothic intoned ambience from Alison Cotton (The Gods Laugh), a wonderfully evocative imagined soundtrack from Andrew Wasylyk & Tommy Perman (House With A Curse) and gorgeous pastoral ambience from Gilroy Mere (Furlongs) both on Clay Pipe, an impassioned and highly impressive new album from Kristin Hersh (Sugar On Blackstone), sparkling retro-futurism from Vanishing Twin (Archives), 80's inspired electronica from Belbury Poly (Sorcery), avant-folk experimentalism from Thorn Wych with 'Aesthesis' and inspirational jazz & krautrock-tinged Irish drone-folk from Trá Pháidín. Plus we have a quintet of amazing reissues, in the form of Goldie's 'Timeless' (2LP blue vinyl), Genesis 'From Genesis to Revelation' (LP + 12-inch edition), Mark Fry's legendary 'Dreaming With Alice', and the reboot of Brian Eno's noughties label Opal sees the re-release of both 'Drawn From Life' and 'Another Day On Earth'.
